Idol Addict

It’s my turn to blog, and I really should be talking about the new book I have out, Just About Sex, but I have more important things to focus on. Still, I can’t totally ignore my marketing duties--so here’s the abbreviated spiel about JAS: it’s about a sex therapist/columnist who runs afoul of a lawyer when she prints a letter from his disgruntled ex. He calls her on it, they argue, he takes extreme measures to get a little revenge … yada, yada, yada … they fall in love and live happily ever after. Please buy several dozen copies of the book at your earliest convenience.

Okay? Okay. End of marketing spiel. Now on to more important things.

You’re watching American Idol, right?

For years I’ve avoided jumping on this bandwagon, but no more. My kids insisted on watching it, one thing led to another, and now the whole family is engrossed in the unfolding human drama.

In general, I think the voting has been right on point, but last week had me scratching my head. Here’s why: Sanjaya is still here, and so is Antonella.

WHY are they still here? Has anyone listened to them SING??? I have, and I’m still shuddering.

True, Sanjaya has great hair and seems like a really sweet kid. True, Antonella is really pretty and has those nude photos on the internet.

But isn’t this a SINGING competition? Shouldn’t we vote for the best SINGERS? I’m just saying…

Me? I love Blake, the human beat-box, Jared, even though he’s a little full of himself, Chris, Sundance, Jordin, Lakisha, Melinda, Sabrina, Stephanie … oh, and A.J., who was voted off last week in favor of Sanjaya of the beautiful hair and weird Michael Jackson vibe. Can’t wait to watch the fellas tonight.

So what about you? Are you mesmerized by the Idol drama? Who’s your fav?

Sorry...can't say I'm mesmerized. I did watch part of an episode or two while I was channel-surfing at commercials for other shows.

I do like the beat-box guy, though. Very cool sound.

I only got into AI with the last season--never watched it till then, and then I decided I needed to see what all the hype was about. Of course, I got addicted. Chris Daughtry was my favorite, and I have NO idea WHAT America was thinking when they voted him off.

This season, I've somehow only caught the shows with the men (though I did see all the audition shows). Right now my two favorites by FAR are Blake the beat-box guy, and Chris! I need to see the women, though.

Alas, I'm the one person who doesn't watch the show in America. Sorry. LOL :) I guess I just really don't get it. I mean, when they talk about it on the news, they show clips of it, so I've seen enough to think, what's the big deal, it's just a talent show. And also, if only we can get these people to vote in elections, maybe we could have better candidates.

Or maybe not. ;)

ARGH! Blogger just ate my comment!! What's up with that??

Anyway, Lois, I'm afraid you can't lay claim to the only non-Idol watcher in America--I don't watch it either. Well, I don't watch TV at all.

BUT I did see JAS in my local grocery store today!

I'm with Lois and Sally. The only show I watch regularly (like every new episode, when it first airs) is ROME on HBO. And honestly, I think everyone on that show is gonna end up dead. There's just going to be a huge battle on the last episode, where Pullo will go nuts and kill everyone, then a volcano will explode or something and kill Pullo. End of show.

Eve and Kristina--Blake is WAY cool, and he can sing, too.

Lois and Sally, I'm not much of a TV watcher, either, but there's something about getting to know these people a little and then rooting for them that just pulled me in.

Caroline--I've never seen ROME, although it sounds good. And of course it's got those sexy DVD covers. ;)

Sally, thanks for noticing JAS in the grocery store! I've been having major angst about it. On Friday, there were no copies of it at Target (my daughter swears that means it sold out, LOL!, but I think it means Target didn't bother ordering it), and then today there were 2 copies of it at Target, but MORE copies of everything else. So of course I'm thinking that Target didn't want to order that many copies of it.

No insecurities here, huh?

Ann :)
