Great Escapes

I am so lucky. As a writer I get to choose my escapes. I've spent my last couple of books in Seattle. Dreary but the perfect setting for my series. I've been other places in my writing escapes. Maui. Greece. And every day I can choose to escape to different locals in my mind.

Lately though it's been so rainy here in Vancouver, I've been thinking a lot about my top five. There are five places I still want to see for real. I feel a calling to them in my soul. They are:

The Great Barrier Reef
Angel Falls in Venezuela
Great Wall of China

I know it'll be years before I make these trips so I'm savouring the sensation of them in my mind. How about you? Where do you travel in your dreams? What worldly location speaks to your soul?

Looking at the gloomy weather here in Michigan...I wouldn't mind visiting any of my top five right now either...

Here's my 5, in no particular order.

1. The Vatican City
2. Sydney Australia (Going there in 2008!)
3. Scotland/Ireland/England (Wouldn't be much of a weather change though)
4. I'd love another trip to Paris
5. California--I dream of touring old Hollywood homes

I've been studying Architecture and History of Decor a lot lately, so I'm a little biased in my dreams!

Cosmic, sorry to hear the weather in Michigan is awful too. I've never been to Paris so it would make it in my top 10. I've done the Hollywood tour but that was a couple decades ago so it's something to consider adding to my list. What an interesting outlook you must have on travel from architecture and history of decor!

Hi, Wendy & Cosmic Kid--

Wow! You both have some fabulous places listed. I'm looking for a setting for a new book, and you've gotten the ideas percolating...

I really want to get to Italy--Rome, Venice, Florence....etc.

And I'd like to see the Taj Mahal.
I'd like to go to the rain forest. And I'd like to visit Japan.

I'd love to go to England/Scotland/Ireland and walk through all the castles and stately homes. I'd love to visit Australia. The pyramids. The Great Wall of China...
